Greg's Bio

Even at a Young age, Greg Ashcraft wanted to be the best artist he could be, He began to explore his talent well before he learned to write. Throughout his youth, friends and family members came to him for drawings and paintings of images and pictures.

When Greg turned 19, he decided to get a tattoo. He spoke to the only person he knew that did tattoos near him. The artist assured him that he could produce beautiful results. Greg was "not pleased" with the quality of his tattoo, and knew he could do better. Over the next 2 years, he learned more and more about the industry. He soon became confident in using skin as his canvas.

Greg Ashcraft opened Skinworx, Inc. in January of 1995. The focus of the business has been, and always will be, quality and not quantity. This is apparent in the craftsmanship and cleanliness of it's owners work. Greg knew right off that developing standards in sterilization was the most important aspect of the industry. This was a factor that few other artists cared about. Greg was the first tattoo artist in Alabama to comply with Health Department regulations. He began in 2000-2001, by aiding the state Health Department in writing new regulations for the state.

Greg also knows that another extremely important issue in tattooing is the quality of the artistry.

He is dedicated to making sure that customers receive the tattoo they desire. You can walk into Skinworx and look at the flash on the walls, bring in your own design, or even just come in with an idea and have Greg draw it for you. Many of the things he enjoys tattooing include realism (copying something exactly) and portraits, but he is also skilled at cover-ups, new school, oriental, and much more.

Another aspect that sets Greg apart from other tattoo artists is his desire to continue learning and progressing as an artist. He is a member of the A.P.T. (Alliance for Professional Tattooist), which provides him with information and ideas from other tattoo artists. He frequently attends conventions and reads tattoo magazines, in order to stay abreast of current styles and trends. In fact, many of the tattoo industry's magazines have published a lot of the extraordinary work done at Skinworx.
